Boudoir Goddess Marathon :: May 13, 2012

Denver Boudoir Photographer

What woman doesn’t want to feel like a supermodel? Well now is your chance! On May 13, I will be hosting a day of boudoir photography sessions. Surprise the special man in your life with an album that is meant for his eyes only. I guarantee he will love it and will consider it the best present ever!

Your boudoir photography session will begin with the complete pampering session of professional makeup application by Jessica from Confident Faces and hair styling by Erin Gannon. You’ll probably want to make plans to go out that night because you will look absolutely gorgeous after Jessica and Erin work their magic!

Your boudoir photography session will take place at a posh Denver hotel suite (details to come upon reservation) and includes up to 3 outfit changes. Bring lots of accessories including high heels and jewelry. You can get as creative as you want and bring props such as a guitar, cowgirls boots and cowgirl hat, masks, etc. Whatever you would like!

Your session includes a Little Black Book Album containing the best photos from your session. This album can be wrapped as a very special present!

The investment is $450 and payable via cash, check, or credit. Additional products are available for purchase at your session including album upgrades, digital negatives of your photos, prints and canvases.

To book your session, email me at laura@lauragravelle.com or use the contact form on my website. I look forward to hearing from you!

Here are some frequently asked questions.

1. Do you retouch/airbrush the photos?
Yes. Every single photo that you order or that is in your product (album, prints, etc) will be retouched and edited. None of us are perfect, and we could all use a little help! The faces that appear on the cover of magazines all have retouching. Believe me, now that I know how to use Photoshop, I don’t look at magazines the same anymore. In real life those women look just like us, blemishes and all!

2. All of the women I see in boudoir photos look so perfect and skinny. I am not skinny or perfect in any way and I’m worried my pictures won’t look that great.
Just as I said above, no woman is perfect outside of the Photoshop world. I shoot women of ALL shapes, ALL sizes and ALL ages. Boudoir is truly for everyone. Every woman’s body is unique and beautiful in it’s own way and when you walk into your boudoir session, you’ll begin to feel like the supermodel you truly are. So whether you are young and in the best shape of your life, have had a baby and have stretch marks, or are seeing places starting to sag, a boudoir session is for you. You will feel amazing afterwards!

3. I’m so nervous and have no idea how to pose for these types of photos! Help!
I will guide you every step of the way. I don’t expect you to know how to pose and how to position yourself. I will tell you exactly what to do, where to look, where to place your body and what expression to give me. You will not ever be left hanging and I promise you will have SO MUCH FUN. Every woman walks in nervous and walks out feeling confident and beautiful! The most common line I hear is “That wasn’t so bad! I actually had a blast!”

4. Do you have any tips/advice on on what lingerie I should bring?
There are so many styles of lingerie out there. Depending on your style and taste, the sky is truly the limit on what you decide to wear for your boudoir session. If I had to recommend one thing that flatters all body types it would be corsets. And always wear heels! Overall I just recommend bringing the type of lingerie that your man will like the most.

Do I really need to get my hair and makeup done?
Yes, absolutely! It looks stunning in the photos and it will help you feel your best – which will result in better photos. I recently had my own makeup done for a photo shoot and I was floored at what a difference it made. I will always have my make up done from now on for any photo shoot I am in!

REVEAL :: Accounting for Photographers

This was really helpful! Thanks!
A P31 friend,

Great advice Laura~.

Stephanie McDonnell - March 29, 2012 - 5:37 pm

That was helpful. I am really bad when it comes to keeping my business finances organized. It feels like enough just to manage my home finances. But I like that you set aside Mondays for that. I suppose it just takes a little bit of discipline. I will have to ask my husband to create some spreadsheets for me to manage everything. He is the spreadsheet whiz!

Abriana Chilelli - March 29, 2012 - 10:50 pm

Hi Laura! SO helpful! I was actually just talking about how to organize all of my accounting today, so it was funny that you posted this today. Question- let’s say you were saving for a certain business expense (a new lens or a new camera), would you keep it in your business checking and just wait til you have enough to buy it?

Laura Gravelle - March 30, 2012 - 6:01 pm

Hi Abriana, that is exactly what I would do. If I’m saving up for an item that will be paid for with business money, then I continue to save that money in my business account. I do my very best to keep my personal expenses and business expenses completely separate. I’m not an accountant in any way (and never want to be!), but this method has worked for me so far. I’m sure as my business continues to grow, I’ll adapt and change my ways to match my accounting needs, but this simple method would work well for anybody just starting out.

Lemon Quinoa Cilantro Chickpea Salad

I finally have gotten on the Pinterest bandwagon, and let me just say, I’m hooked! Last week we were having friends over for dinner and I wanted to make something new and get away from the foods I always make.  I browsed through my cooking magazines and nothing was jumping out at me.  Then a lightbulb went off in my head and I thought, I should look on Pinterest!  This recipe for Lemon Quinoa Cilantro Chickpea Salad caught my attention.  I made it and took photos along the way so that I could share it with all of you. I have to say, it was incredibly tasty and I will definitely be making it again.  Plus, it is extremely healthy! If you make this, please let me know what you think. You can follow me on pinterest HERE.

{THE FINISHED PRODUCT PICTURED BELOW}

  • Ingredients:
  • 1/2 C. dry quinoa
  • 2 C. vegetable broth
  • 1 can garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 1 c. cherry tomatoes cut in half
  • 2 avocados diced
  • 2 C. spinach
  • 1 bunch cilantro
  • 1/4 C. onion
  • 2 small cloves garlic

  • For the dressing:
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • 2 tsp. dijon mustard
  • 2 tsp. olive oil
  • 1 tsp. agave nectar
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin
  • dash of salt and pepper
1. Make the quinoa first. Soak the quinoa in a pot filled with the vegetable broth for 15 minutes. After that, turn on stove to medium high and let the quinoa come to a boil. Once it boils, reduce heat to medium/low and let quinoa simmer. Stir every so often, and cook quinoa for about 20-25 minutes – just until the liquid absorbs. You don’t want it completely dried out, so when there is just a TINY amount of liquid left in the pot, remove it from heat and put a lid on it. Set it aside, and make the rest of the salad. (Believe me, I let the quinoa burn to the bottom of my pot the first time and had to make it all over again!)
2.  In a food processor, add your spinach and cilantro. (I was feeling lazy and didn’t want to hassle with getting out my food processor and then having to hand wash it later, so I just chopped and minced with my chef’s knife.)

I just thought I would show you my new handy dandy onion pot.  Supposedly it helps onions stay fresh longer.  Stay tuned for another blog post letting you know whether it is a gimmick or not!

3. Add the greens to a bowl, and set aside. Next take your onion and garlic and finely dice those and add to the greens mixture. Next add your chickpeas and stir until everything is combined and coated. If the quinoa is cooled, you can add it to the chickpea mixture next.

4. Make the dressing by whisking all the ingredients together. Pour over salad and mix until combined. Add in tomatoes and avocado and mix. Set in refrigerator for about 10-15 minutes before serving so the flavors set.

This is what it looked like when it was finished. It tasted as good as it looked! The only thing I would change next time would be to cut the amount of cilantro in half.  Cilantro is my favorite herb, but there was just too much of it and it overpowered the other flavors.
