Meet … my Dad & Mom!!! It was past due to take some great photos of my parents together, so we organized a portrait session for the two of them. The place where I grew up set the perfect backdrop for the photos – the good ol’ family homestead in Lowell, Michigan. The place where fond memories were made and are still being made!

While editing these photos, my kids kept yelling over my shoulder, “Papa, Nana!” They are the best parents a kid could ask for, and now the best grandparents that my kids could ask for. I have memories that include walking around a path that my Dad mows on their property. I remember sitting on a small deck that was rickety and had room for a few chairs. Every summer I had to go to my Grandma’s house to swim in her pool. Now that I and all of my siblings have moved out, my parents have applied the upgrades so that their grandkids can come to Papa and Nana’s play land! The walking paths have been redone to accommodate the four wheelers that my Dad wants to purchase once the grandkids are a little older. The small rickety deck has been torn down and turned into a massive deck that overflows with flowerpots, a hot tub getaway corner, fires in the chiminea, and sitting areas that are perfect for parties. Now my parents even have a pool! See what happens when I move out!

My parents have started a legacy that has been passed down to me and my siblings, and now the ever expanding line of grandkids. I’m so thankful for them and love them so much!

PS – I think we will need to update the family picture wall in the basement with some of these photos!

Kurt is surrounded in life by his beautiful wife and lovely girls. And what a sweet bunch of young women! After spending a few hours with this family, I feel like I should call Kurt and Daile back up and set up lessons on parenting! Their children are very respectful and polite.

They live in Michigan on a beautiful piece of property where they grow an enormous garden and have chickens running around! What a fun place for kids to grow up! This set the perfect stage for our family photography session.

Kurt and Daile have been a huge encouragement to Matt and I as we took this risk to leave everything that was familiar to us and move across the country to Denver. After our photo shoot, I found myself wishing that I would have spent more time them while I still lived in Grand Rapids! What a great family.

Dressing a family for a photo shoot can be very stressful, but Daile, you did a fabulous job!!! The question of what to wear for a family photo shoot is probably the question that I receive the most. It can be a daunting task, but here a few tips to help make it easier:

I really stress to my families to think coordinating outfits not matching. I tell them to browse their favorite stores websites for new collections and a lot times you will see outfit ideas that coordinate really well together. Look for outfits that fit each family member’s individual style but tie all the looks together by picking a few select colors to coordinate. Trying to find one color and style that works for every family member is hard! Plus, I love accessories like adding jewelry, fun shoes, hair accessories, and hats. Think creatively!
