Andrea married the man of her dreams in a romantic castle just over a year ago. The vows were said, the guests partied the night away, and then the exquisite and expensive wedding gown was professionally cleaned and preserved in a keepsake box. Until recently.
She had the urge to wear that gorgeous dress once again. But why just settle for safe pictures when there is an opportunity to be risky and adventurous!
A trash the dress session is a glamorous photography session in which a bride has the opportunity to rock it out in her wedding dress again. It is a symbolic representation of the solid commitment between husband and wife. The dress is trashed and will never be worn again!
Popular places for trash the dress sessions include dirty alleys, rooftops, abandoned buildings, and most of all the beach. Andrea, her husband Derek, and I got together for two separate sessions and took Grand Haven by storm. As a final goodbye to her wedding dress, Andrea let the waves of Lake Michigan crash against her dress as she waded in the cold water. The beach was deserted when Andrea posed for my camera – because it was FREEZING! I was wearing two coats and was still shivering while Andrea went for a little dip in the lake in October. Girl, you’re crazy, but I sure do love the photos!
I have good news for you if you are reading this and thinking that you would like to do a trash the dress session but don’t want your dress to get dirty. After two trash the dress sessions and rolling in the sand and water, Andrea says her dress is still in good condition and was able to be cleaned.
So please enjoy these wild and crazy photos and video!
